The term "Deep Empath" refers to a class of metahumans that are able to make psychic contact with the minds that inhabit the Tunguska Field due to the Azrael Effect. These minds are not of interest because of what they know, as their only experience of the mundane world comes from the deep empaths themselves. Instead, they can share in the deep empath's thoughts, giving him access to a much broader perspective, vastly improved memory, clearer cognition, and keener insights. The technique has been termed a "brain amplifier" by laymen, but the deep empaths deny that this is a truly accurate description.

Known deep empaths include Enigma, Ideon and Flashback.

Doctor Trinity was suspected of being one of the first deep empaths, but this has since been disproven.
