The Meta Human? called "The Freak" appeared in Sydney, Australia in 1961, in an apparrent Tunguska Effect emergence. The tranformation left him inconveniently oversized (10' 11" tall) and bright purple in color, head to toe. He was strong, fast, and tough, but not so much as most metahumans, and for a long time he felt alienated, neither fully human nor fully metahuman. He wandered the beaches and islands of Oceania for several years, directionless, earning what little he needed by doing construction work at small villages and giving surfing demonstrations and lessons at tourist resorts.

By chance, he found himself caught up in the 1961 North Island Riots? at Krakatoa, and found that when exposed to metahuman powers, such as energy blasts or telepathic shocks, his body could absorb and redirect the energy with little or no harm to himself. He was recruited to help maintain order on the little archipelago, and was often sent to the site of metahuman conflicts to try to persuade them to stop fighting or at least take it to an empty area.

The Freak is credited with being one of the driving forces behind the Super Culture? movement of the late sixties and early seventies. His book, "From Combat to Compromise" earned him awards on three continents, and is considered a foundation work for peace movements to this day.

The Freak was killed by Gyroc in 1979, during a lecture in Berkeley, California.
