A theory originated by John Wick in a RPG.net posting, dividing games into three kinds, based on a Cher song, "Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves". Gypsy games appeal to people who like to wander, Tramp games appeal to those pre-occupied with sex, and Thief games are "the most difficult to define, and nobody really believes in them anyway, so I won't take any time to detail them." The canonical example of a Gypsy game is Shadowrun, the canonical example of a Tramp game is Magic: The Gathering, and the canonical example of a Thief game is Ron Edwards?' Sorcerer. References |
