It is indeed working better than I'd expected. Though some of the spurious extra notification messages are a bit odd.

Is this calendar app something you cooked up, or something others can use?

You can take a look at what it does at www.average-bear.com/calendar/ -- it's a web-tool that can (if necessary) be installed 'by hand' on a web-server using the installation guide -- luckily, my hosting service (Hosting Matters, who are GREAT) has a fantastic tool that lets me look through a list of aps and say "I want THAT one." and it's just installed, with all the happy MySQL db support and everything already set up.
If you have a website hosted through someone, they might have something similar.
