This is what happens when Prosaic Reality has to deal with the reappearance of places like The First Castle are suddenly deChanceled.
ATAMI, Shizuoka Prefecture-Archaeologists say they may have found ruins of a submerged city from the Kamakura Period (1192-1333) off the coast of Shizuoka Prefecture.
Hi guys,
After consideration of things, I have decided to drop from the Nobilis campaign as a regular player. I have realized that the genre is not appealing to me (too close to "supers" I think- Amber is as close to that as I prefer to get). Having missed a couple sessions and realizing I kind of liked having an occasional Saturday free, I decided to keep things that way. I did enjoy playing Crime at times and would not mind popping in for an occasional guest appearance, but I don't think I care to commit to a regular schedule anymore. Best of luck to you all and keep smacking down those excrucian scum!
John
View Uglified Map of Miami blast radius.
Okay, death toll is based off the rough blast radius I indicated (resulting in 320 square miles of affected terrain, then cut roughly in half due to the ocean taking up a good portion of the area), the population of Miami and the population density per square mile...
Rounding up... ~200,000 people dead. Initial estimates of half a million or more dead were (predictably) exaggerated, and the survival rate among the badly injured has been surprisingly high.
Wired News: Mystery Deaths on London Flights
A 19-year-old British woman died Monday on board a Virgin Atlantic flight from Miami to London's Heathrow Airport, the airline said. A day earlier, two passengers on a British Airways flight from Miami to Heathrow died
See, this is what happens when mortals encounter Excrucian Blight.
Would it be possible to do Saturday's Chrysalis game on Sunday instead? Jackie have that Christmas raffle prize thing on Saturday.
Due to a chronological bottleneck that I've created in Miami, it's important (if at all possible) for the Chrysalis C group to meet this weekend (more accurately, "before Chrysalis A meets again").
Now, we are scheduled for the 3rd of January, which I believe is when Dave and Margie are juuuuust getting home -- something tells me that will be difficult.
What's I'd like to do as an alternative is meeting on Sunday the 4th in the afternoon. That will (hopefully) give the Consortium time to get settled in a bit, and still give us a session before the next "A" session on the 5th.
Thoughts? (Including the possible impact of Margie's tooth, which I'm sure might be a factor.)
Crysalis A and C schedule, that is.
Dec 06 - Chrysalis C
Dec 08 - Chrysalis A
Dec 20 - Chrysalis C CANCELLED
Dec 22 - Chrysalis A with two guest stars? :)
Jan 03 - Chrysalis C
Jan 05 - Chrysalis A
Jan 17 - Chrysalis C
Jan 19 - Chrysalis A
Jan 31 - Chrysalis C
Feb 02 - Chrysalis A
Feb 14 - Valentine's Day: Chrysalis C CANCELLED
Feb 16 - Chrysalis amalgam game?
Feb 28 - Chrysalis C
Mar 01 - Chrysalis A
On Christmas night a year ago, God fled Heaven to escape an audacious demon attack. The demons smashed to dust his palace of beautiful blue-moon marble. TV news kept it secret, but homeless children in shelters across the country report being awakened from troubled sleep and alerted by dead relatives. No one knows why God has never reappeared, leaving his stunned angels to defend his earthly estate against assaults from Hell. "Demons found doors to our world," adds eight-year-old Miguel, who sits before Andre with the other children at the Salvation Army shelter. The demons' gateways from Hell include abandoned refrigerators, mirrors, Ghost Town (the nickname shelter children have for a cemetery somewhere in Dade County), and Jeep Cherokees with "black windows." The demons are nourished by dark human emotions.
I can't decide whether to be deeply saddened by the kind of life that's portrayed in the article, or to use the whole thing as the incredible treasure trove of story it is.
The secret stories say the angel army hides in a child's version of an ethereal Everglades: A clear river of cold, drinkable water winds among emerald palms and grass as soft as a bed. Gigantic alligators guard the compound, promptly eating the uninvited.
Change to this schedule...

Nov 1, Saturday: Chrysalis C
Nov 8, Saturday: Chrysalis C
Nov 10, Monday: Chrysalis A

Nov 27, Thursday: Thanksgiving
The Game (group C) is at Dave and Margie's, ~5pm.
Justin's game starts at 2pm in Arvada, so that's cutting it close, but that should be about right.
UPDATE: Justin's game is postponed until tomorrow, so how about 3pm?
All right, Donner, what are you up to?
(Note to self: I simply must work this into the story somehow.)Just for the record, this is not how I envisioned the scene in which you recover Amaciel's spirit from the cornfields of Iowa.
Tweak to the page layout to change the visual grouping of the two chancels, which then required rearranging the stuff below it to keep the composition balanced.
I should note that I renamed the 'Thought Records' categories to follow the "Thought Record - [Domain]" format, instead of the "Thought Record - [Name]" format.
Shouldn't change anything for anyone, but if you notice discrepancies or a broken link, lemme know.
In theory, we're scheduled to play Nobilis Aug 2nd, 16th and 30th, then Sept 13th and 27th.
The August schedule presents some difficulties however, since Lee and De are tied up on the 16th and I and Jackie will be out of town on the 30th.
SO... this Saturday may be our only opportunity in August -- I'll be trying to get quite a lot of stuff accomplished during this session. Let me know when you'll be able to make it in the comments, si vous plait.
For those of you blogrolling this page, Chrysalis now pings as http://nobilis.bears-cave.com/, not http://www.bears-cave.com/nobilis/
Via Marn (who probably never thought she'd provide grist for an RPG), a great site on the meanings of flowers throughout the Victorian era (broken down by mini-eras within as the meanings changed), much of it based on an 1883 advice and etiquette book the author got from her grandmother, which then prompted further research.
Currently, the site is here -- although the author mentions that the site is moving to attbi by the end of October, that obviously might not be happening, since attbi.com is going away by the end of the year.
Good stuff, regardless.
Okay, it's now... lesse, the 12th.
Next game is a week from this Saturday, afternoonish. Mark your calendars.
Quick reminder that turning in quote collections and thought records before the next game session earn you happy happy MP regen. Turning them in later earns you a big smile and a hearty and fond hair tousling. You pick.
(That said, I'm aware that I owe De a half-session of some kind and Lee a bunch of emails, otherwise they don't have anything to write about. Duly noted and such will be forthcoming.)
I'm very glad to be past BenCon and back to something like our normal gaming schedule. Also very glad that the next session is a mere ~9 days away instead of a month. Much better.
One of the interesting and unlooked-for 'bits' that's come up in the current game is the idea that (some of) the characters are being dumped back into the chilly and shocking water tank of Humanity for the first time in a very long time (or Ever) -- the death of the Imperator, having robbed them of Immortality (which I realized after the fact is something I think of as cutting you off from the human condition), leaving them with hunger pangs, emotional pangs... a near-flood of human feelings.
A cynic might think that, for an Imperator whose stated concept revolves around the Human Condition (electricity, lust, guilt, life (fungus), punishment, reality, death), this can only be seen as a good thing even if it's hard on those affected. What are his Nobilis, after all, if not the closest and most well-understood of the Humans whom the Imperator wishes to study/understand? :)
The page for June, Dame Reality is up. Picture at top left is also linked.
One character left to go (and a couple questionaires from the Usual Suspects) and I've got to say I am patting myself on back for assembling this group.
Added Guilt's character page, updated Lust's and Punishments. Click on the appropriate image in the upper left to reach the pages.
Update:
Oh, and thanks to Dave for the new thumbnail pictures I was entirely too lazy to make.
A quick note on what the various post-categories are intended for:
Flores -- Essentially, this is fiction bits from the GM (or the players if it doesn't pertain to their character); background bits from the NPCs and so forth.
Game Logs -- gods-eye view of each session.
Notices -- General blog or game-related notices.
People & Places -- NPCs and Places of note.
Rules -- House rules, interpretations of standard rules that bear recording, etc.
Thought Records -- Diaries, Journals, whatever... I'm just using the name the game uses instead.
Just a quick summation of the things you can do as game contributions to regen miracle points faster.
Character Thought Record for a session: 1 MP
Keeping the Game Quotes for a session: 1 MP
Keeping the Game Log for a session: 1 MP and 1 DP*
Note: All benefits are halved if it's not in before the next game, with enough time for me to read it.
* - DP = Dynasty Point (essentially a pool of miracle points that anyone in the group can draw from if necessary). Normally, you get one of these every session. I'm going to be a bastard: the DP for each session is generated when the Game Log reaches me or this page.
